Our goal is to make sure that you have a bright and beautiful smile that enhances your confidence, conveys a healthy mouth, and grabs the attention of others.

Now, there are many reasons why someone’s teeth can become dull looking or off color.

One of the big reasons is simply due to aging. Over time teeth can simply lose their luster. But that can certainly be sped up by things such as the type of foods you eat, what you drink, whether you smoke, and the consumption of certain medications. In addition, some people’s teeth may be genetically pre-disposed to getting discolored faster than other people.

Nevertheless, no matter how your teeth have become discolored or stained, there is a solution for you. One of the most popular and easiest solutions is teeth whitening or teeth bleaching. There is no difference between these two terms.

If you’ve walked down the oral hygiene aisle of any Coral Springs pharmacy store or super market, you’ve no doubt seen a myriad of teeth whitening products. The most obvious product is tooth paste that has been enhanced with a teeth bleaching agent.

But the choices don’t stop with tooth paste. If you look a little closer, you’ll find teeth whitening strips and gels. All of these products contain and active bleaching ingredient. The most well-known whitening agents are carbamide peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, and blue covarine.

I’ll cover a bit more about specific over-the-counter products in a moment, but the common problem with them all is that they generally don’t contain enough of the bleaching agent to make a noticeable difference.

For example, some tooth pastes contain so little of the peroxide that your teeth are more likely to look a little whiter and brighter just from the abrasive material in the paste itself. I’m not suggesting this is the case for all tooth pastes because some can work better than others. But in many instances, the toothpaste is loaded with more marketing hype than teeth whitening bleach.

Now, teeth whitening strips are a slightly different animal than tooth pastes. The strips are a flexible plastic called polyethylene. They are coated with a teeth whitening gel.

The way they work is that you’ll wrap the strip over the surface of your teeth, making sure to press the plastic between your teeth to get good coverage. After a minute or so the moisture on your teeth will begin to react with the chemicals on the strip.

The chemical reaction generates urea which will penetrate the tooth enamel to help breakdown stains. So the hydrogen peroxide whitens while the urea removes stains.

Next, you may come across a whitening gel on Coral Springs super market shelves. The product packaging looks similar to the packaging for fingernail polish. The way it works is that you would get your teeth nice and dry and then brush or paint the gel on each tooth. You should prevent your lips from touching your teeth for about 30 seconds to give the gel time to dry.

Some people say that after several applications they’ve noticed a slight difference.

But again, all of these products don’t have enough of the bleaching agent that would cause you to look at your smile in the mirror after 2-3 weeks and say, wow.
